SALIDA COMMUNITY UPDATES
Lieut. Ed Ridenaur
Lieut. Ridenaur is the area commander for northwest Stanislaus County. Areas of involvement
are community oriented policing, schools , zoning, planning and environmental resources.
Lieut. Ridenaur is working on lighting for the Broadway park as a result of an assault
that ccurred there. He is also working on an ordinance that prohibits drinking of
alcoholic beverages there after 10 p.m.
Lieut. Ridenaur made available brochures on Megan's Law and described information
made available through the Sheriff's Department to inform the public on known sex
offenders in Stanislaus County.
This information is available at the Sheriff's Substation.
Dave Brown: Community Officer
Car and garage thefts are still a problem in Salida. People leave car windows open
thereby enabling thieves to take items including garage door openers. Open garage doors
are also an invitation to theft.
CHP Community Officers:
Tim Green reported that rains have caused many auto accidents
in the County. Signs for Toomes Road near Maximillian have been approved to prohibit
tractor-trailer rigs from parking there and obstructing traffic.
Officer Raias stated his activities in Salida focus on the Hispanic community.
Officer Rick Alborg stated that individuals caught driving without a driver's license
will have their driver's license suspended and the vehicle taken and stored for 30 days
at a cost of $700 to $800 to the owner to regain possession.
FIRE DEPARTMENT:

SALIDA NEWSLETTER:
Bob Reibold reported that printing and distribution of the newsletter
is behind schedule - in part due to finances. A new format is being developed for 11 by 17
newspaper.
STANISLAUS COUNTY PAL:
Tutoring and sports activities are normally scheduled from
3 p.m. to 6 p.m.. This summer the hours are expanded to 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. there is a free
lunch program.
A swimming pool is available for use at Crows Landing.

OLD BUSINESS
Salida Community Plan
The Stanislaus County Board of Supervisors has approved funds to update community plans for
Denair, Keyes and Salida. Bob Kachel, Sr. Planner with Stanislaus County, and representatives
form JRM in Oakdale discussed the plan John Wilbanks facilitated information gathering on
community issues. RRM representatives were John Wilbanks, Gary Conte and Diana Koones.
The purpose of the meeting was to provide vision clarification, identify constraints and determine
land use directions. Salida residents present at the meeting actively participated in the process
thereby making the facilitated session very effective. Notices will be mailed out for the next
workshop. It will take place at in June or early in July.
NEW BUSINESS
Second Annual Safety Faire
The second annual safety faire is scheduled for October 17th.
CORRESPONDENCE
The Board of Supervisors has scheduled a hearing on rezoning the Shell Development Laboratory from
agricultural to planned industrial.
SALIDA IN THE NEWS
A number of Modesto Bee articles were described and Salida was commented on in the
"Where's Mark Allen" program, briefly.
